For the week of August 3rd-August 9th we have made the decision to cease our regular posting schedule for all of our social media accounts and blog and instead focus on Amplifying Black Voices.
Over the next week we will be posting incredibly talented people and accounts around art, activism, fashion/lifestyle, creativity, and beauty. You might be wondering why we’re doing this. What does this have to do with Surf for Brands? I spoke with Surf's CEO Swish Goswami to talk about the initiative.
Trufan is a Mission Driven Company
We are mission driven. Our company's mission is to democratize social data and make it accessible for companies of all different sizes but Swish says our mission doesn’t need to end there.
“We believe our mission can extend past our industry and into the issues our employees and customers are facing. Racial discrimination is still prevalent in not just the US but in Canada.”
Continue the Conversation
Black voices were being spotlighted a month ago when Black Lives Matter movements across the world took off. In early June, Surf for Brands participated in Black Out Tuesday and stopped posting for a week so as not to interfere with the important messages being shared. While protests are still happening, they aren’t being covered as heavily as they were in the media anymore but that doesn’t mean we should stop talking about them and the issues being faced by black people across the country and around the world.
“We want to do our part in not just being a part of the conversation but continuing it. It’s easy for movements like this to become popular and then to fade out,” Swish said in regards to the conversation around these topics slowly starting to slow down. “We want to make sure that doesn’t happen this time.”
They Are Inspiring Stories
Turning your passion into a career is difficult for anyone but for black creators this can be even more challenging as they have to overcome the racist and prejudiced beliefs of others in order to be successful. We want to help these creators in whatever way we can to chase their dreams as creators by telling their stories.
“We want to appreciate the unique challenges black creators, artists and entrepreneurs go through in mastering their craft and making the world a better place. Their stories are inspiring and worth sharing.”
It’s Time to Get Involved
We do not want to sit idly by while racial injustice happens in our country and world. If you have any ideas you’d like to share with us on how to get involved and support the cause, do not hesitate to reach out to us on any of our social media accounts.
